After graduating from Yeditepe University Secondary School Mathematics Teaching Undergraduate Program in 2015 with an integrated bachelor's degree and a non-thesis master's degree, Sanem Sarılıcan worked as a mathematics teacher and level coordinator in a private educational institution for 5 years. At the same time, she started her master's degree in Mathematics and Science Education at Boğaziçi University and focused on the geometry achievement and spatial thinking skills of middle school students in her thesis. She presented a part of her thesis as an oral presentation at the 4th International TURCOMAT symposium.

In 2020, she started her doctoral studies at Boğaziçi University. During her doctoral education, she worked as a researcher in TÜBİTAK 1001 and BAP projects. Sanem Sarılıcan focused on mathematics teacher educators in her doctoral thesis and presented some of her doctoral studies as an oral presentation at the 6th International Eurasian Educational Research Congress. Meanwhile, in 2023, she started working as a part-time instructor at MEF University, where she supervised prospective mathematics teachers and offered the course 'Role of Mathematics in Science, Technology, and Engineering”. 

As of July 2024, she has been working as an Instructional Design Consultant at the Office for Learning and Teaching Enhancement (OLTE) at Özyeğin University
